Camping by the Condamine River near Killarney,QLD
About this album
We arrived here on a rainy day and in the dark. Our tent, which we were still getting used to, had to be put up by the headlights of the car. Not a bad effort in the end. Thankfully the rain eased and we had a great couple of days there.
Does anyone pay attention to the caution signs? Not this mob on a wet day.
Entrance to the state forest and a zig-zagging condamine river
We were certainly in cattle country here
Just some of the rocky outcrops we passed
A closer shot
Winding dirt roads, turning muddy in some parts
The obligatory Kangaroo shot
The rivers weren't flowing, but there were many pools of water
Particularly nice shot I thought. Credit to Meike
Just to prove that some 'river crossings' were traversed. Actually, 14 but we hardly noticed them.
Um, 4WD on dirt track?
The camp site - the apparent 'ditch' is the road
The fallen gum(?) tree that provided the happy campers hours of entertainment and shelter
All of us who went - including dog and parrot
BB having a wander on what's now a mossy river bed
Chico standing guard to ensure our safety from Yowies and other mystical creatures of the Austrlian bush
A particularly nice shot of Tess with BB in the fork of the fallen tree
The river bed
Just a little further from our camp site there was a little more water
Same spot, different angle
Grassy spot by the river
Gathering wood for the camp fire
BB enjoying a moment being a bird in the tree
The other campers enjoying a moment in the tree. Note the large kid
Uh huh.
Around the camp site
Same spot, different angle
A short walk uphill gave us a good view of the surroundings
ditto
Dry but rocky river bed, providing the foreground for a nice shot
This outcrop was just beside the camp site. Truly imposing
Proof that the silly gene exists - trying to negotiate a narrow track with a drop to oblivion
Mieke's turn to negotiate the skinny track.
She might have looked relaxed, but she was off like a shot each time something moved in the bush.
Just some country sheds On the way out of the state forest
Queen Mary falls - a very popular tourist spot. Would have been a greater splash had there been more water flowing.
On the track down to the bottom of the falls
ditto
Michael at the bottom of the falls
Us
Mieke and kids at the bottom of the falls
View to ??
Think that peak is Mt Barney, but that's just a guess
